In the gospel of Matthew, we start to see a theme of opposition to Christ. Since Jesus’s birth, he had constantly been opposed by members of society.
Matthew start off with king Harod killing all of the newborn babies of Bethlehem in order to try and slay Jesus. Then, Jesus was constantly being challenged due to his association of people that were considered bad in their society. He was then betrayed by Judas and Peter and put to trial. He was then crucified.
Many people were opposed to Jesus because he directly followed the rules of his father, God. Subliminally, people were opposed to God himself. They did not like Jesus due to the people he helped and the rules he made, but these were in fact the rules of God. God sent Jesus to spread his word on Earth. Throughout the bible we see this recurring theme where people go against God and suffer consequences. Jesus even warns that the world is wicked and judgement day will come.
It is the opposition of Jesus that makes him such a powerful role model throughout christianity. When everyone else was opposed to the word of God, opposed to helping people of low social status, opposed to doing good, Jesus still did it. Throughout all of the opposition, he followed the word of God and performed good deeds throughout his life. He even died for what he believed in. Jesus was put to death and was even resurrected to continue his good deeds. These challenges make Jesus the ultimate hero and martyr in the christian faith. He shows that miracles and good will happen because of God. He stood up for his christian beliefs and was willing to die for this cause. Many christians throughout history saw and still see him as the ultimate biblical hero. He stood up for righteousness and christianity while being opposed and crucified by his own people. Afterwards, he still remained good and continued the spread of christianity. Just like many heroes today, Jesus had an interesting backstory, and stood up for something. Many people throughout history saw his story inspiring.
